Vincent Parry is on the lam. He has escaped from San Quentin where he served time for allegedly murdering his wife. Only he and the real murderer know that Parry never committed the crime; now all he wants is a chance to prove his innocence.
"Wanted" posters are plastered all over the city - everyone is looking for him, hoping to collect the hefty reward. But there is one kind soul who offers to help him escape. Luckily Vincent spots a notice in the local newspaper.
Irene had followed Vincent's murder trial and fallen madly in love with him. She wants to help. But before they get a chance to hatch their plans, a blackmailer steps in, greedy to collect the reward.
Seeing the blackmailer's gun, Vincent has no choice but to follow him. However, a good-natured cabby unexpectedly scares off the blackmailer. The cabby tells Vincent that his face is too recognizable: his only chance at escape is to undergo plastic surgery. He knows just the man: Dr. Walter Coley.
Vincent Parry (assisted by a group of hoodlums) undergoes plastic surgery in Dr. Coley's office. He hopes to stay with his only true friend, George Fellsinger, until the bandages can come off.
Alas, when he arrives at George's, he finds that his friend has been murdered in cold blood.
On George's dead body, Vincent discovers a note from Irene. She is asking him to meet an acquaintance of hers at a seedy bar in a treacherous neighborhood.
At the bar, Irene's mysterious friend tells Vincent that he will take him to see his beloved. Apparently, Irene is waiting in a luxurious French restaurant called:
Le Chateau Subway
Vincent reaches safety. Soon he can take off his bandages and meet Irene....
After the unveiling, there are five Vincent Parrys.
The surgery has left terrible scars, but Vincent is ecstatic. He gets to live happily ever after with his beloved Irene.
But first, more importantly, he gets to eat.
