The Hospital of Seven Teeth

5. The House at the End of the Road

I lay on the hot roof, surrounded by birds, unable to sleep. A fresh breeze was helping clear up the headache I had gotten from the heavy air inside the tunnels. I was just beginning to doze when the others woke up, only slightly less befuddled than me. Despite the heat and sunshine, I remained in a state of half-dreaming.

Over a breakfast of protein bars and cereal -- we were running out of drinking water -- we determined that we had been inside almost all of the buildings. Yet we had not found the morgue.

Later, walking across the campus in bright sunshine, inspecting the chapel, library, and nurses' quarters, the mystery of the morgue increased. Where would it be if not near the surgery wing? Finally we received a break: one particular basement room was stacked with blueprints. And there was a drawing of a small house set back in the woods across from the medical building. It was labeled Pathology. There was no tunnel access.

By the time we found the blueprint, it was already afternoon. It was blazing hot, we were critically low on water, sleep and food. With great excitement and cheer we traipsed across the campus towards the little house that was Pathology.
